Terms

The agreement between you and us. Short, and written to be read rather than survived.

Who you are buying from

Seb Howarth t/a Little Family Faces, a sole proprietor in South Africa, at the address at the foot of this page. When we say “we” that is who we mean, and when we say “you” we mean whoever is ordering the book. You need to be 18 or over.

What we sell

A printed keepsake book, made to order with photographs and names you give us. Nothing is printed until you have seen a proof of every page and approved it.

The example book on the site shows the size, the paper and the layout honestly. Colours on a screen are never exactly colours on paper, and a small variation between the two is normal rather than a fault.

The photographs you upload

By uploading a photograph you confirm two things:

  • That you have the right to use it — you took it, or you have permission from whoever did.
  • That anyone recognisable in it is content to be in a book you are making. Most are your own family, but the rule matters for the ones who are not.

Your photographs remain entirely yours. You give us permission to store them, put them in your book and send them to our printer, and nothing else. We do not use them to advertise, we do not show them to anyone, and we do not sell them. If you want them gone, delete the book — see privacy.

We will not print anything unlawful, and we may refuse an order — and refund it in full — if we believe the content is illegal or was uploaded without the right to do so. This has never happened and we do not go looking, but a printer needs to be able to say no.

The proof is the moment that counts

You see every page before you pay. Read the names, check the spellings, look at the photographs. When you approve it, that approved book is what we print.

After payment the book goes to the printer within minutes and cannot be edited. If you spot a mistake, write to us immediately — we will stop it if we still can.

Prices and payment

  • All prices are in US dollars.
  • The price of the book depends on how many pages it comes to; the delivery cost depends on where you are. Both are shown, separately and exactly, before you pay.
  • Payment is through PayPal, with a card or a PayPal balance. Your card details go to PayPal and never reach us.
  • Any import duty or local tax charged when a parcel arrives is yours to pay. In most cases there is none, because your book is printed in your own region.

If a price is displayed that is obviously wrong — a decimal point in the wrong place — we may cancel and refund rather than honour it. We will tell you and apologise.

Delivery, refunds and reprints

These have their own pages, because they are the ones people actually need: delivery and refunds and reprints. They form part of these terms.

Your account

Keep your sign-in to yourself; anyone with it can see your books and your photographs. You can close your account whenever you like from your account page, and everything except the record of orders you have placed is deleted immediately.

We may suspend an account that is being used to abuse the service or upload unlawful material. If you have an order in progress when that happens, we will still make it right.

What we are responsible for

We are responsible for the book: that it is made as you approved it, printed properly and posted to the address you gave. If we get that wrong we fix it or refund it, and nothing in these terms limits that.

We are not responsible for things genuinely outside our hands — a courier strike, a customs delay, a photograph too small to print sharply after we have warned you. Where the law allows a limit, ours is the amount you paid for the order.

None of this affects the rights the law gives you as a consumer where you live. Where they conflict, your legal rights win.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by South African law, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction. If you are buying as a consumer elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your own country — that is not something these terms can take away, and we would not want them to.

Changes

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, and the date at the top of this page tells you which that is.
